Set List |

| I just hope McCabe gets his way and they do small gigs like Empress Ballroom in the future, full of big verve fans doing the old classics, maybe even with the obvious 4 thrown in. That would be one for the diary. |

There are too many things in this thread to agree with and a lot of them disagree with each other. It's just so hard when there's so much music to make choices.
I wish they were big enough to set up two shows where they say night A will be for all the singles you want to hear, night B will be for (I don't want to use the phrase "Real fans" because that seems to arrogant to me) those who might appreciate our back catalog. I know that will never happen, especially here in the states. I just want them to know how much their older stuff is appreciated and I wonder how much of that they can feel during a show where it's obviously all about UH. We are the people who literally dream about this band at night and spend time discussing them on a daily basis so it only seems fair to give us a nod now and then. I hope that doesn't sound too selfish. We just have way more of our lives and passion invested in them and it would be nice to be rewarded for that. That said, I've never been disappointed, but I've also never seen GG live.
At the same time. No UH=no tour (at least from a business standpoint).
And on dropping songs from the set. I could have done without BSS, but how they've married it to LIN is just perfection. They need to end the first set with Stormy Clouds/reprise in my opinion. |

Yeah I hestitated to use the phase but it's not arrogance its just as you said - "we have way more time of our lives and passion invested in them" - also the energy is totally different at a gig full of "passionate" verve fans shall we say - thats the point I was trying to get across. i don't think i've ever met an arrogant verve fan.
Actually I totally agree with everything you said, i could have written that post myself Especially the Stormy Clouds/reprise ending, its just perfect. |

i would much rather have a set heavy on the first two albums and early singles, no doubt... but it just isn't realistic. you can't disinvent UH. they now have 4 albums + singles and b-sides to choose from, and it would be nice to have a balanced representation of all of them.
i love the idea of multiple shows in each city... even at different venues. the comparison is bogus in almost every way, but the stones did it in 2002 with a stadium show, an arena show and a theater show, all with different setlists, with stadium being mostly hits, down to the theater with obscure album tracks. obviously, that wouldn't work for the verve, but if they could find a way to separate the types of shows, with one mainly based on singles or UH tracks, and one based more on the loose, jam-friendly early tracks where they could stretch out more and play b-sides and such... that'd be nice.
at the same time, i'm just thankful they're back, and if i'm fortunate enough for them to pass through chicago, i won't be complaining about what they play, whatever it is. |

Still waiting to hear the new album so i've left out any new tracks but so far i think this would be a sweet setlist - 20 songs - thats how many they played at Blackpool;
Let The Damage Begin
Blue
This Time
Slide Away
Back on My Feet Again
The Rolling People
Catching The Butterfly
Already There
Weeping Willow
So It Goes
Life's An Ocean
Grey Skies
Gravity Grave
BSS
Come On
She's A Superstar
Encore:
The Sun, The Sea
A Man Called Sun
All In The Mind
Stormy Clouds/Reprise
That was hard work! I'm gonna post it before I change my mind.
