V festivalWow, they're sounding on top form tonight....
So far they've performed:
This is music
Sonnet
Space and time
Sit and wonder
History
Life's an ocean
Now the broadcast has gone off to the other stage and the Charletons, but hopefully they'll be coming back to the Verve before too long.
Richard called out "Nick McCabe" halfway through Sit And Wonder, and the end of that song was great when Richard just stared into the camera!
During Life's An Ocean, Richard called out Si and Sobbo's names too, and kept singing at the end, "don't know when we're going" or something like that ...
Can't wait for the second half ....

He namechecked and thanked the crew and whole band again before BSS...
Those tw*ts at northern souls reckon Nick bowing when he was namechecked was him being sarcastic - they really think they know him there - strange people...
Great show and great footage on TV - but these namechecks..I hope are not the end of something - just the end of this leg and an attempt to show they are still together.
Life's An Ocean was outstanding!

btw are you listening live on Virigin radio?
they did Rather Be instead of Velvet morning
Love Is Noise is just about to end.

Yeah, Life's an Ocean was outstanding!
And so was Sit And Wonder.
I gave up listening on the radio, cos the sounded wasn't very good, waiting for the rest of the show on tv now.
I didn't think Nick was being sarcastic, but who am I to say....
I suppose ppl can read what they like into things. I prefer to think it was a gracious acknowledgement.

No I gave up on the radio cos the sound was odd for some reason.

That's great they did Rather Be instead of Velvet Morning. Brilliant.

set over now on radio. Sounded good for me. Recorded it all.
Might be more on TV...
Yeah I took it that Nick was being gracious too. Seems like they've talked before these two shows. I was a bit pissed off after the Japan stuff. Same annoyance you felt in 1998/99 when the split happened after the rumours.
Would've hated for it to happen again!
I guess we'll know more son but it seems it was just an end of the summer gigs show tonight.
Oasis and Coldplay are doing big tours in Nov/Dec. Hope they'll do something again soon and more importantly carry on.

i'm still in the post-wedding-party coma, so i don't think too much at the moment
i HAD to drink a lot, to survive the music.
i wonder if there's a law saying music at any wedding party i'm invited to has to be utter s*it

The Verve close V Festival 2008
The Verve closed V Festival 2008 by playing a headline show at the Chelmsford leg of the bash at 9.20pm (BST) tonight (August 17).
The band showed little sign of the tension that had reportedly developed in their ranks in recent weeks. They kept talk to a relative minimum aside from frontman Richard Ashcroft making reference to the heavy rain, which had started to fall as the band began their set.
"If you think it's wet tonight you should have seen last night," Ashcroft said after 'Space And Time', referring to the conditions compared to the Staffordshire site of the festival, adding, "at least we started off dry."
He later dedicated 'The Rolling People' to the late soul legend Isaac Hayes, who recently died of a stroke.
"I'm going to sing an urban hymn," the singer announced before leading his band through 1997 UK Number One single 'The Drugs Don't Work'. "It sounded like a good name for an album, but now it's ten years [actually 11] on."
During 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', which inevitably drew huge cheers, Ashcroft pressed his microphone against his heart to signal his appreciation for the crowd.
The Verve then ended their set with new single 'Love Is Noise', one of three songs they performed from comeback album 'Forth', out August 25. The show closed with the group surrounded in a cascade of rainbow-coloured smoke, marking the end of V Festival 2008.
The Verve played:
'This Is Music'
'Sonnet'
'Space And Time'
'Sit And Wonder'
'History'
'Life's An Ocean'
'Rather Be'
'The Rolling People'
'The Drugs Don't Work'
'Lucky Man'
'Bitter Sweet Symphony'
'Love Is Noise'

Yeah, it was annoying (to say the least!) when they missed out Rather Be.
Now I'm waiting for BSS and LIN to be broadcast....
I listened to the radio broadcast while I've been waiting. Richard namechecked them all again.
They gave a great performance and seemed happy together, I just hope they weren't making the effort for a great last show. We need to hear all those Forth songs performed live now.

Saw only BSS and LIN.
Band looked happy,Sobbo had got beautiful smile(never seen him smiling before),but Richard's voice was rough and it seemed like singing was very hard to him.Actually he looked out tired and ill.
Will see, what I think after the radio boot listening, what just finished it's downloading.

The missed out The Rolling People from the tv broadcast.
I noticed Sobbo's smile too, he looked really happy.
And I thought Richard was looking tired but that's understandable with the schedule they've had. No complaints about his voice though.

any truth in the rumour in the papers that Aschroft said that this would be The Verve's last show after another set of bust ups?

I never heard him say that.
What paper was it, The Sun?

All these rumours are bollocks.

Even worse, you don't read that twaddle do you?

of course. Why would I want to pay 40p a day to be told when I will die, how I will die and who will kill me?
GLOBAL WARMING, KNIFE CRIME, HOODIES, INFLATION, CREDIT CRUNCH, 2012
that's no way to start the day
and implying that the Sun is better than the Star is a contentious comment in Liverpool

The Sun and The Star are both as bad, but The Star is worse.
Ok, I'm contentious, I admit it. But I don't live in Liverpool.
I don't read any papers anyway, they're either full of bollox or they're boring. There's other ways to get the news these days.

The Star is just tits, celebs and sport.

and?

well, i prefer newspapers i read to contain actual news and knowledge i can learn from. If people wanna read about nothing but celebs and fannies then stick with the Star.

I think you'll find I never once said that the Daily Star was a newspaper

ok, you didn't say newspapers, but that's what the term "papers" is widely accepted as meaning!
Maybe you should have said "any truth in the rumour in the comics...." (if you insist on being precise about it!)
