'Forth' full album leak

I have downloaded a file that claims to be a full album leak.... listening now, first two tracks genuine
Lucky Woman

Where did you find it?
hindleyite

Live4ever Oasis forum, says it's leaked from the Russian fansites.

http://live4ever.proboards48.com/...mp;thread=48276&page=1#583152

Listened to half the album and I'm liking what I hear so far - some ASOH type tracks...

'I See Houses' sounds like 'Check the Meaning' in parts, 'Numbness' seems like a bit of a Pink Floyd homage. 'Sit and Wonder' has a pretty mint guitar bit.
Lucky Woman

Thanks! It had to leak sooner or later.

I don't know how some forums get away with posting links to official stuff like that tho - I've been closed down for less!
deusverve

thanks for the links. I hope this forum doesn't go down because of it though!

Well, no links are posted on this forum, only a link to an oasis forum....
Appalachian Springs

yesssss!!!! there is a LEAK. and its genuine. all 10 tracks leaked

can someone explain me why the leak is only found on 2 Oasis Forums or Blogs? we have to get better!

the Oasis' largest forum: live4ever.us and the oasis/britpop brazilian blog maybeherenow.blogspot.com are the only places the album has leaked so far.

i went to both, but on the Live4Ever forum they didn't post the link, the guy has to PM you.

the other blog has posted a link for the download. and there you can also find the full Love Is Noise single with all the b-sides. the two are the most recent updates of the blog so you can find them easily.

lets hear the record now, shall we?
windinthewillows

no. i will wait patiently until official release date.

Cos it's illegal!

Maybe the obvious Verve sites/blogs etc. would be checked more thoroughly by officials and have them removed...

Appalachian Springs

i mean, its been 11 years! 2 more weeks ain't nothin'!
but i got it (a bad version) on my itunes.....

what are you all going to do?
windinthewillows

if i get a decent quality version, i'm not able to resist.

Just listen to it.... it's outta this world...
windinthewillows

128 kbps is good enough for me, that's pretty much mp3 standard, isn't it?
Lucky Woman

No quality complaints from me whatsoever...!
Ramon

not from here either... There's some lovely songs out there to come
Valium_Skies

Forth Leak

Its true,

Although Appalachian Springs does have some womans voice speaking in it which shouldnt be there, its only for 3 seconds though so it isnt really a spoiler.

The album trully is excellent . Im in love with Valium Skies & Appalachian Springs .

10/10... not biased for being a verve fan, it really is that good
Ramon

Valium Skies is awesome... still gotta hear Appalachian Springs...

Anyone else reminded of A Man Called Sun while hearing the first minutes of Columbo?

Yes, A Man Called Sun - Pt II

Valium Skies is already a favourite.
Appalachian Springs is delightful and a favourite.
Judas and Noise Epic are favourites.
Numbness sounds like Pink Floyd (I like Pink Flloyd so this one is a favourite).
Rather Be and Sit And Wonder, although heard before live are amazing and even better than the live versions. Definately favourites.
Columbo is great and I'm sure will be a favourite after a few more listens.
I See Houses and Love Is Noise are great, but don't quite make the favourite list.

The album gets 10/10 unquestionably from me.
(not that I'm biased either of course).

Ramon

The man called sun was actually called Columbo
Appalachian Springs

OK, i listened.

Sit and Wonder: its a bit better than i expected, it has a mantra-like vibe and it totally rocks!

Love Is Noise: we all heard this one. got nothing to say except the album version is 10 times better than the radio edit.

Rather Be: love it. its definitely a single candidate.

Judas: GREAT!!

Numbness: EXCELLENT, PARADISE-LIKE!!! it definitely has some Floyd in there....

I See Houses: has some Richard's solo work in it....

Noise Epic: the rockiest of all. superlative beat. 8 minutes of..... epic.... noise.

Valium Skies: the most easy-listening song of all. after 8 minutes of noise they had to lower the volume with this one. its already a classic. hope they play it in future concerts (lets hope there will be lots of future concerts). "she got all i need".

Columbo: i see the connection everyone noted. but half-way through the song everything changes. its one of the best Verve songs ever.

Appalachian Springs: well, my username couldn't be bad! perfect closer. great vocals & ambient guitars. the screams are colossal! with a good edit, this could be a hit-single.

i think the album combines all richard/verve styles. those who felt they couldn't make songs like those in Storm in Heaven were wrong, and those who felt they couldn't rock any more, too.

The bad thing of this versions: some tracks have  between 10-30 seconds less than the real songs, for example I See Houses, and some songs couldn't finish properly (don't know why it is such a bad album cut)

last: in my songs, on the "comments" section it reads: 'Richard Ashcroft buttfucks EMI?'

Richard leaked the album to piss off label? maybe....will never know.
windinthewillows

Appalachian Springs is just too beautiful.

i just love the last 1-2 minutes. where it gets really quiet and pieceful, but with grand air.
it's the soundtrack to the cover picture.
and so ...well... FORTH!

makes me shed a tiny little tear of emotion.

best end of an album EVER.
viva la verve

Thanks, but I think I'm gonna wait for the physical release. I mean, the biggest and most important event of the year deserves it

You obviously enjoy the anticipation!
windinthewillows

i think it's a very good album, and definitely a grower. gets better every time you listen, always some new facets revealed.

it's "forth" in the sense of being something new, but it's still very much the verve we know - it's the verve of "the new decade".

honestly - as much as i love the previous albums, especially the early stuff - wouldn't it be sad if forth was just a copy of that? 15 years and no "progress"? some people in their later thirties still clinging to the sound they made in their early twenties?

no need to rely on past glory! FORTH is great, and it is NOW.

btw, listening closely, i think it's very much the drummer's album.
Dago

Agree with windinthewillows,it's Pete's album and he deserve it.
    for Sobbo!
windinthewillows

Anyone up to found the Pete Salisbury Appreciation Society?
Lucky Woman

That's what I like about The Verve - they're not afraid to do something different and not content with churning out more of the same (even if the "same" is great!!!).

Sobbo's sounding great on the album, he does seem to go unappreciated sometimes, but it's definately an album where all four come into their own imo.
Appalachian Springs

the four (members) are great on fourth album Forth!

the Oasis' blog i mentioned earlier has uploaded a new version of the album for those who want it. its a better quality one, and hasn't got any cut mistakes (such as the previous had on I See Houses and the women talking in Appalachian Springs).

9/10 of the tracks are 192 kbps (normal) while I See Houses is 160. but the important thing is that the song cuts are much much better than the other. though i dont think Rather Be is as it will be on the album (it finishes abruptly).

hope you enjoy the record.
Lucky Woman

thanks AS, great stuff.
steve

I'm going to wait patiently
ANorthernHistory99

I'm liking it so far.
greenpaulo

I'm gonna wait as well - i've downloaded a vinyl rip 256kbs quality but i ain't touched it yet. I'm not even gonna listen to it when I get sent the official link on 18th for pre-ordering it - On 25th i'm gonna have it, full on, on my record player...knowing that all those other people are cainin it for the first time as well, all gettin our minds blown on the same day...like verve xmas day....I like that......or maybe i'm just a romantic

Just out of interest, why did you download it?
vrv

i got the album.Judas is my favorite.
ANorthernHistory99

On my second listen right now.  Based off the first listen, the three standout tracks for me were Numbness, Noise Epic, and Appalachian Springs.
ANorthernHistory99

Does I See Houses end abruptly for anyone else?  Or maybe I just a bad copy of this song.

Yeah, like having a great bar of chocolate in the cupboard when you're on diet, just so you know you're resisting it rather than having no choice cos you aint got none!!!!

vervecovers

ok.  I'm going to rant a little here.

It's good, they certainly didn't phone it in, but I don't really feel like their hearts were in it like in the past.  There are songs (I See Houses) in particular that totally lack character.  But there are also
songs like Judas that I really like.  As far as new classics?  Too early to tell.  What I really miss on this one are the songs built around a great bass line.  Gravity Grave, Slide Away and Life's an Ocean come to mind.  Simon has some good rhythms going on, but nothing sticks out yet.  I like how Pete has really changed up some of the rhythms on this one.  He's always comes up with interesting beats and he continues that tradition.  He really does a stand out job on this one.

My biggest complaint of all are the lyrics.  It may just be because I've been listening to a lot of Decemberists lately and feel that Colin Meloy is an absolute lyrical genius and superb story teller, but Richards lyrics just aren't cutting it for me.

"Who are we?  What is life? Can we change as people?  The World sucks.  The world is beautiful.  I have feelings.  Sometimes I cry and feel pain".

"Like a cat in a bag waiting to drown/This time I'm coming
down" paints an awesome picture.  And now we're getting "I see
houses/Rows and rows of red brick".  What happened?  "Here she
comes/Seven Suns/A burning flame" is just beautiful.   "She got
all I need/Yeah the air I breathe" just pales in comparison in
my opinion.  I like to hear lyricists arrange words in ways I've never heard in a song and too many of his rhymes are too obvious, seem forced and times and often come off as cliche.

I guess that what really bothers me is that I feel that the other guys have changed things up a bit, but Richard is putting out lyrics that belong on his solo albums.

I love when they just play music and try things, but maybe they
should have refined some of their ideas a little bit more.
It's cool that a lot of this stuff kind of organically came
about, but I just need a little more definition.  I guess this
is what I was talking about when I said they didn't phone it
in, but their hearts didn't seem totally in it.  They had some
great ideas, but I don't feel that they took the time to say
"Ok this is good, but where can we take it now?"  I think
that's what I like about Columbo.  It feels like a jam that
they took in a different direction rather than just building on
what they already had.

All ranting aside.  I like it.  I don't love it, but I didn't
love most of UH to start out either so it will probably grow on
me.

Quick impressions of songs.

Sit and Wonder.  Great opener.  Didn't like the live versions I'd heard, but this changed it for me.

Love is Noise.  We've talked about this one enough already.

Rather Be.  Eh, doesn't do much for me.

Judas.  Love it.  I don't like that his first word is "Feelings" but I got over it.

Numbness:  Very very loose, but in a good way.  Nick's playing is very raw in this one.  Makes me feel like I can imagine what it's like to just sit in a room and listen to him play.

I See Houses.  Mistakenly put on this album.  Is supposed to be on RA's next solo album.  Horrible.  Going to need to replace my skip button soon.

Noise Epic.  The beginning kept me in suspense.  Knew it would go somewhere, but was surprised by it.  Seems kind of like a new take on Brainstorm Interlude or Neon Wilderness.  Would love to see this one live just to see how Nick would handle such a high energy song.

Valium Skies.  It's nice.  Not what I expected.  Lyrics are hit or miss.

Columbo.  Got lots of LIN stuff in here.  Imagine this came as a jam first then he borrowed and slightly changed a part to make the main riff of LIN then of course took the other part for the bridge between BSS and LIN live. I like the unpredictability of the song.  The break at 3:20 was a little suspenseful for me which I liked.

I really like Appalachian Springs.  Probably my #2 after Judas.  It's sonic soup at it's best and the album ends perfectly with Nick dishing out a bowl that's not too hot, not too cold, but just right.
